The Bank is a very unique and iconic institution. Where else can you be exposed to such a wide variety of market exposure? Being at the centre of the financial world is both very informative but also exhilarating. The Bank of England name is world renowned a very reputable institution, being the ones who make key decisions that have a direct impact on the financial world. I chose the Bank as I wanted to be part of those decisions.

The working environment is second to none; there is a passion for public service equalled only by the determination by all staff to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. This environment has pushed me beyond my studies as a student, driving me to learn new skills and ways of working. Everyone is very approachable and always willing to help. The opportunities available are vast, ranging from formal training, to secondments and even just arranging a coffee with someone of interest.

I think what surprised me most was the amount of responsibility you get. Along with daily tasks, you have your own project to work on, which you research and implement in the way you choose (with the OK of a manager). I feel like other institutions don’t give you that opportunity and it is a very valuable one. If you work on an interesting piece of analysis, it will be seen by those right at the top of the Bank.
