The Bank of England’s Disability Network was founded by a small group of the Bank staff in 2008 – and now has around 90 members. Its key objective is to identify and remove barriers so that people with disabilities can be employed, allowing them to reach their full potential. The membership includes people who either have a disability or who have a special interest with disability employment issues.

We aim to promote awareness of the full spectrum of disabilities which exist across the bank. To that end, we organise events for the whole Bank to mark important dates (like Deaf Awareness Week) and we also invite guest speakers to share their experiences of living with a disability. Recently, we have also provided feedback on the accessibility features incorporated into the new polymer banknotes.
