The Bank of England is not like a high street bank – we’re the UK’s central bank. That means we have responsibility for keeping the UK’s economy on the right track and making sure the financial system is safe and sound.

One of our most well-known responsibilities is to design and print secure banknotes and make sure they get to the places they’re needed. But we do a lot more than that behind the scenes. Setting the main interest rate in the economy, supervising building societies, settling billions of pounds worth of payments between banks, researching the future of cash or collecting data on mortgages are all things that you could be involved in here at the Bank.
